We are back into the swing of things after spring break, and are looking forward to warmer days and more activities outside and elsewhere.

Grade 9 Farewell – Coco Brooks Pizza Fundraiser

Grade 9 students have set themselves up as sellers for Coco Brooks Pizza fundraising for their farewell in June (online orders only, no cash orders please!). Please talk to your child about ordering pizza, dessert, appetizers, or pre-made meals (yes! grade 7 and 8 families are more than welcome to order from the grade 9s). Sales online are open now and close April 22. Items will be delivered to the school on May 17 for student distribution.

Next Year School Planning

Reminder: Let us know if you are planning not to return to Ian Bazalgette for 2026-2027 (this does not include current grade 9’s)

Reminder: Science Program Registration

Please note that students currently in the Science Program here at Ian Bazalgette will be automatically re-enrolled into the program next year, and therefore families do not need to enter an Expression of Interest on SchoolEngage.

Lunch and School Supervision

The local community centre and nearby strip mall are open to students at lunch, as the school supports junior high students with growing levels of freedom and responsibility. However, there is no staff supervision at these locations. Please speak with your student about being aware of their surroundings when in public spaces.

School Fees

Schools cannot cover all costs to offer the variety of programming they do. Continued refusal to pay fees may mean a suspension of certain programming in option courses next year, or cancellation of field trips, and possibly even reduction in teacher staffing.

Please pay now. Please note fee waivers do not apply to school complementary course fees.

*Note: There are some outstanding fees from Semster #1 that must be paid in full.

More information about school fees can be found on our school fees page and see how to pay fees through your MyCBE account.

Personal Mobile Devices Policy

Personal mobile devices include any device that can be used to communicate with or access the internet, such as a cell phone, tablet, gaming device, laptop or smartwatch. This also includes devices capable of communicating with a mobile device such as headphones and bluetooth devices (e.g. earbuds and speakers.)

These rules apply to all students, with exceptions for students using devices for health and medical needs, to support specialized learning needs and for educational purposes.

  • CBE will block student access to known social media platforms on school networks and devices for all grade levels.
  • Grades K–9: will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers, or better yet - simply left at home.
  • Grades 10–12: personal mobile devices are not allowed during class time unless teachers allow it for specific learning tasks. Personal mobile devices should be silenced or turned off and stowed away in a bag, backpack, locker, or in a designated area as directed by teachers.

If a student is found to be using a personal mobile device in class without permission from the teacher, the CBE will work with the student to ensure the rules are understood following a progressive discipline policy. In rare cases, if the student does not respond to interventions, the student may have their personal mobile device(s) banned.

Lunch

We remain a closed campus at lunchtime. We want to remind families that students need to bring their lunch or eat the lunches provided by school. We are not able to provide access to microwaves for student use. As a reminder, we are not able to receive Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. in the main office. The driver will be asked to return the delivery to the restaurant.
