School Council Message
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!
Have you ever wondered if there were things that you could do to support and influence the school community? Do you wish that you had a better understanding of how schools operate? Are you worried that you don’t have time or energy to contribute to a committee but want to know more?
The Ian Bazalgette School Council and Fundraising Association would like to invite you to learn more by joining us at the school on September 16, 2025 at 5:00-6:00 pm for the first meeting of the school year. Both the School Council and Fundraising Association meetings will occur back to back.
The School Council is a group of parents, teachers, and the school principal who work together to help foster a supportive learning environment and create valuable opportunities for students. The council gives advice to the principal and the CBE about things that matter at our school and the principal shares information related to the school, CBE, and Alberta Education.
The Parent Fundraising Association is a group of parents who help raise money for the school. The Fundraising Association is a formal group that follows special rules under the law (“The Societies Act”) and is different from the School Council although many of the same people attend both.
Both groups are important, and we would love for you to be part of them! Those interested in additional responsibilities may want to consider a position on the School Council or Fundraising Association Executives, such as Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Key Communicator. Elections occur in October of every school year.
If you want to learn more, please come to our next meeting or contact us at ianbaz.schoolcouncil@gmail.com. We look forward to working with you!
Sincerely, Tricia Hoffart
Chair, School Council

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the School Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33.
This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.
