School Council News
Ian Bazalgette Parent Advisory Council is excited to share a fantastic FREE learning opportunity with all families within the Ian Baz school community.
For the first time this year, the Alberta School Councils Association (ASCA) is offering a series of expert-led monthly webinars on a wide range of topics. Ian Baz Parent Council has registered for the ASCA Access Pass, which grants all parents and guardians from our school the ability to register for upcoming webinars and to view recordings of past webinars.
The next session is Wednesday Feb 25, 2026 at 12:00 PM titled “5 Home Tips for School Success: The Root Causes of our Child's Behaviour”: “The jump from intention to daily habit is where most families struggle. This practical session helps parents spot the root causes behind school-day behaviours—sleep, screens, structure, stress, & connection —and shows how small, consistent home routines can change what teachers see in class.”

Personal Mobile Devices
Personal mobile devices include any device that can be used to communicate with or access the internet, such as a cell phone, tablet, gaming device, laptop or smartwatch. This also includes devices capable of communicating with a mobile device such as headphones and bluetooth devices (e.g. earbuds and speakers.)
These rules apply to all students, with exceptions for students using devices for health and medical needs, to support specialized learning needs and for educational purposes.
- CBE will block student access to known social media platforms on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
- K-9 Students: will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home.
- Grade 10-12 Students: personal mobile devices are not allowed during class time unless teachers allow it for specific learning tasks. Personal mobile devices should be silenced or turned off and stowed away in a bag, backpack, locker, or in a designated area as directed by teachers.
If a student is found to be using a personal mobile device in class without permission from the teacher, the CBE will work with the student to ensure the rules are understood following a progressive discipline policy. In rare cases, if the student does not respond to interventions, the student may have their personal mobile device(s) banned.
Psychological Services
We are happy to report that our school has been assigned a few Psychological Services for Semester #2. We will have a Psychologist on site two days a week to assist informally with reviewing supports for students. Formal consults with the Psychologist, for counselling, will occur through formal referrals and with direct consent of parents/guardians.
Report Cards
Report cards will be available for viewing on February 24.
Tall Ship Sailing Fundraising
A group of lucky Grade 8 and 9 Ian Bazalgette Students will be flying to Victoria, BC in April for a 5-day / 4-night sailing trip on a tall ship. They are planning several fundraisers and are looking for your support!
- March 7 - Bottle Drive
Please hold onto your recyclables! Students will be in the community to pick them up on March 7. If you'd like to send a bag of cans or bottles to the school in advance we'd also be happy to store them.
Got Lunch?
We remain a closed campus at lunchtime. We want to remind families that students need to bring their lunch or eat the lunches provided by school. We are not able to provide access to microwaves for student use. As a reminder, we are not able to receive Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. in the main office. The driver will be asked to return the delivery to the restaurant.
